Now ANOTHER Liberal Democrat peer quits over party’s bid to defy Brexit

A SECOND peer has quit the Liberal Democrats amid the party’s pledge to defy the Brexit vote, it has emerged.

Baroness Manzoor

GETTY    Baroness Manzoor has quit Tim Farron’s party over the pro-EU pledge

Baroness Zahida Manzoor, who had been the party’s work and pensions spokesperson, is said to have left in protest at leader Tim Farron’s vow to keep Britain in the EU.Just days after the Leave result in the EU referendum, the Lib Dems said they would campaign against the majority will of the British public and fight the next general election with a promise to keep the UK tied to Brussels.Revealing Baroness Manzoor’s decision, a party spokesperson told PoliticsHome: “Baroness Manzoor has resigned the whip as she disagrees with our view that we should be at the heart of Europe.

“We are disappointed with her decision as it is the Liberal Democrats who are standing up for hope and unity in the face of Brexit.

“More than 18,000 new members take the opposite view and have joined the Liberal Democrats since the EU referendum because of our position on Europe.”

Baroness Manzoor follows Baroness Emma Nicholson in resigning the Lib Dem whip in the House of Lords over unhappiness with the party’s EU policy. In response to the revelation in The Times last month, a party official reportedly asked: “Emma who?”Both Baroness Manzoor and Baroness Nicholson will now sit in the unelected upper chamber as non-affiliated peers.

Speaking in the wake of the Brexit result, Mr Farron revealed the party would fight the next election on a platform opposed to leaving the EU.

He said: “For many millions of people, this was not just a vote about Europe. It was a howl of anger at politicians and institutions who they felt they were out of touch and had let them down.”The British people deserve the chance not to be stuck with the appalling consequences of a Leave campaign that stoked that anger with the lies of Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove.

“The Liberal Democrats will fight the next election on a clear and unequivocal promise to restore British prosperity and role in the world, with the United Kingdom in the European Union, not out.”

Former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, who raked in £22,500 from investment bank Goldman Sachs for a two-and-a-half hour speech on the EU last year, has since been installed as the party’s Europe spokesperson.

Baroness Manzoor is currently abroad and could not be contacted for comment.

1.7 Million more voter decide that we should leave the EU. All politicians that cannot accept this had better start looking for aq new job that will keep them in the manner to which they have all become accustomed.
