‘Why the HELL should we pay for English lessons?’ Ferrari boils over on The Pledge

NICK FERRARI erupted into a fiery tirade on The Pledge after a co-host suggested the taxpayers should pay for immigrants’ English lessons.

The outspoken radio host and Daily Express columnist nearly jumped out of his seat in frustration on Thursday as Afua Hirsch expressed concern over government cuts.

Taking the Sky co-host to task, Ferrari challenged: “You also talked about English lessons. Are you suggesting we pay for those?”

“Well we used to. We’ve cut the amount we spend on English lessons by £40 million,” Hirsch replied.

To which Ferrari snapped: “Good, I would cut the whole lot.”

Nick Ferrari launched a fiery tirade over immigrants getting English lessons for free

She said: “You don’t want immigrants to learn English?”

Having none of it, Ferrari retaliated: “If I go live in France, right, I don’t expect the government to pay me to learn how to speak French.

“I’ve got to do it myself. Likewise if I go like anywhere else in the world.

Are you suggesting we pay for those?

“Why the hell should the people here, who are already paying taxes until they squeak, why should they suddenly pay more money?”

Brushing the question aside, Hirsch took a dig at Ferrari as she suggested he lacked understanding of why people were coming to Britain.

She said: “Do you have any understanding of the reason that immigrants have come to this country and would you compare them to you…?”

However, the comments only fired Ferrari up further as he retorted his father was an immigrant who had to learn English without government funding.

Adding that is the way it should be, he said: “Well hold on, the clue is in my last name.

“It was my dad who came to this country so it’s not like I’ve got a particularly British name if you think about it.

“My grandparents, then my dad, had to learn – nobody paid them. They went out and my grandfather ran a restaurant and learned English and that is how it should be.”
