And it has been feared the House of unelected peers, many of whom are Remoaners, may seek to frustrate the process of Brexit by blocking the Prime Minister from triggering Article 50.
“In return most MPs value the check that scrutiny by the Lords provides. We are not here to sabotage legislation – we are here to improve it.”

“It is not my role to enter into the politics of Brexit, but I do think that I am entitled to defend the House of Lords from this kind of attack.”
Ministers are currently exploring plans to reduce the number of Lords from 800 to 600 in an effort to restore the public’s confidence in the second chamber.
