‘Unacceptable’ John McDonnell savaged by top Tory for trying to OVERTHROW election result

CABINET minister Chris Grayling has attacked Labour’s John McDonnell for urging hard-left activists to overthrow the Government.

Shadow Chancellor Mr McDonnell last week called on militant unionists to take to the streets to topple Theresa May.But top Tory Mr Grayling today said it was “absolutely unacceptable” for the stir up mass protests against the Prime Minister.

The Transport Secretary said he was trying to “overthrow” the result of the general election to put Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street.

Mr Grayling said: “We were by far the largest party. Theresa May saw our vote share increase from 36 per cent to 43 per cent.”The Labour Party is strutting round as if it won the election.

“We have the Shadow Chancellor calling people on to the streets to try and overthrow the result of a democratic election.

“It is an extraordinary place to be, absolutely unacceptable.”

Speaking to trade unionists last week, Mr McDonnell, a self-confessed Marxist, called on one million people to demonstrate against Mrs May.He said: “We need people doing everything they can to ensure the election comes as early as possible.

“What we need now is the TUC [Trade Union Congress] mobilised, every union mobilised, get out on the streets.

“Just think if the TUC put out that call – that we want a million on the streets of London in two weeks’ time.”

Thousands of hard-left protesters are expected to attend a rally dubbed the ‘Day of Rage’ outside Parliament tomorrow afternoon. The ‘Movement for Justice By Any Means Necessary’ group is encouraging supporters to “shut down London” during the Queen’s Speech.

Advertising the event on Facebook, the movement says Mrs May’s “rotten Government” has “lost all authority to govern”.

A host of Tory MPs have savaged Mr Corbyn for failing to condemn the march, which many fear could turn violent.James Cleverly said: “Jeremy Corbyn needs to show leadership now and make it clear that he condemns these plans.

“Peaceful protest is a legitimate part of a free society. But senior Labour figures calling for anger and insurrection is stupid and dangerous.”

Jacob Rees-Mogg added: “Storming Parliament on Wednesday is not an answer to the tragedy at Grenfell House.”The awful tragedy is not answered by disorder. Mr Corbyn should make it clear that he supports the democratic means of changing our laws and not agitation.

“It would be very sensible if in his speech replying to the Queen’s Speech he made that clear.”

Labour sources have insisted neither Mr Corbyn nor Mr McDonnell will be attending the demonstration.A spokesman added: “The Labour Party has no involvement whatsoever in this event.”

And writing on Twitter earlier today, Mr McDonnell said it was “vital” that any protests against Mrs May’s government are peaceful.
