French DELETE Britain from the EU map: Children taught bloc only has 27 members

FRENCH schoolchildren are being taught that the European Union only has 27 member states after Britain was axed from maps of the bloc in a popular educational guide.

The Aedis “petit guide” to the EU shows all of the other 27 member states shaded in a different colour with each of their national flags, all surrounding a larger EU flag. But in a sign that Europe is already preparing its future citizens for life without Britain the UK is simply shaded in white and overlooked, with no mention whatsoever made of Brexit.

The guide to the European Union, which is aimed at schoolchildren, was first published back in January 2007 but was “updated” in May 2017, apparently to reflect Britain’s departure, according to the publisher’s website. In April the EU Commission caused a stir when it similarly deleted the UK from some maps featured in papers publicising its much vaunted flagship social policy.

The petit guide – which is one of dozens published by Aedis – presents French schoolchildren with a glowingly positive picture of the European project and makes no mention of why Britain is no longer featured on its front page.In the literature it states: “The European Union brings together 27 countries of Europe in economic and political terms, in order to avoid wars and to defend democracy, human rights, prosperity and peace more effectively.”

The guide claims that “numerous other countries in Europe want to join” and observes that “institutions and treaties must be adapted in view of this enlargement”.

It adds: “Every day, the European Union allows all its nationals to study, travel, live and work in the country of their choice amongst the member states, all this without the need for passports or borders.”The front page of the guide – described as a “synopsis of the 27 countries and a map of the EU” – makes no reference to any criticisms of the European Union, and instead focuses on the fact the bloc has its own national anthem, flag and currency.

In April, just weeks after Article 50 was triggered, the EU Commission omitted Britain from a number of maps marking the announcement of its flagship social policy.

The UK was conspicuously greyed out as a non-EU country in material the EU Commission produced to advertise the launch of its keystone Pillar of Social Rights.

Britain, which has more domestic labour protections than most European countries, was not mentioned in part of the planning for what Brussels boss Jean-Claude Juncker has described as his most important policy.Official Brexit talks started earlier this month and the country is formally set to leave the bloc in March 2019, although transitional measures could mean key components like free movement continue beyond that date.
