BRITISH MEP David Coburn launched a scathing attack on his colleagues in the European Parliament, slamming their “absurd” fisheries policies.
The European Commission has set out a series of quotas, they say to protect fishing stocks throughout the bloc, however, fishermen often fall foul of the tight rules – which are punishable with sizeable fines.
Attacking the red tape, Mr Coburn said: “As the cell door slammed shut behind him, he remained leaning against the bolted metal door for a few seconds before pacing across the cell.

“What was the technical term? The Common Fisheries Policy prohibited recreational angling catch. How was he to know that he was only allowed to catch two bass, and the third which had the audacity to bite, it just had and it made him a criminal.
“How did you get banged up for going fishing? The world was truly absurd – this could be a short story by Kafka.”
The UK’s withdrawal from the London Fisheries Convention will ban France, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland and Belgium from fishing within 12 nautical miles of the British Coast.
Environment Secretary Michael Gove said leaving the convention was “an important movement as we take back control of our fishing policy”.
