The International Trade Secretary said a “lot of passion” stemmed from the complexity of the negotiations but the Government would not let it hamper progress.Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, Dr Fox added any transitional arrangement with the Brussels bloc should be finished by the next UK general election.

Marr said: “Particularly in the last week, Michel Barnier’s body language and what he’s said about our negotiation position, it seems to me that the politics are beginning to get in the way.

“Are you worried about the tone that’s coming out of the EU, it does not sound friendly at all.”
